The book flows beautifully the plot progresses at a really good rate not so slow I got bored not so fast that I started to get overwhelmed the characters are lovingly written the idea great the setting well realised all the things that I like in a book It also has a great use of Irish mythology there are lots of historical references that are just there rather than being shoved in the readers face I do so hate the look look I ve done some researchI know my stuff school of writing And yet I had to make the effort to finish I never did get a clear idea of when it was set although this may be because of the vagueness of my historical knowledge rather than of any failing in the book There are references to our ueen who is clearly identified as Victoria and there are references to her being old but what old means from the perspective of a 12 year old is not necessarily what I think of as old
